Located in the heart of the Apennines, the park<strong> extends mostly in Abruzzo and to a lesser extent in Lazio and Marche<\/strong>, including within its perimeter the provinces of L&#8217;Aquila, Teramo, Pescara, Ascoli Piceno and Rieti. The naturalistic richness of its massifs and the extraordinary historical-architectural testimonies are reflected in a myriad of itineraries and visiting proposals for all seasons of the year. What is more, the territory includes charming hamlets and villages of medieval origin with their architectural and cultural particularities, very pleasant to visit.   <\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"354\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hotelcirillo.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gransasso1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-764\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hotelcirillo.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gransasso1-200x118.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.hotelcirillo.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gransasso1-300x177.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hotelcirillo.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gransasso1-400x236.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.hotelcirillo.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gransasso1.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Characterized by a truly unique variety of landscapes and ecosystems<\/strong>, the park essentially presents a hinge territory between the Euro-Siberian and Mediterranean regions. The flora is extremely diverse depending on the area and altitude of interest; in fact, with more than two thousand species surveyed, the park constitutes one of the protected areas with the greatest plant biodiversity in Europe. <\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hotelcirillo.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gransasso3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-765\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hotelcirillo.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gransasso3-200x112.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.hotelcirillo.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gransasso3-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hotelcirillo.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gransasso3-400x225.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.hotelcirillo.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gransasso3.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the typical plants of this picturesque area are endemic plants such as<em>Matilde&#8217;s Androsace<\/em>, <em>Apennine Edelweiss<\/em>, <em>Apennine Genepi<\/em>,<em>Aquilan Astragalus<\/em> and<em>Yellow Adonis<\/em>, a species long thought to be extinct. As for the fauna, it too is very diverse and is represented by rare species such as the <strong>Abruzzi chamois<\/strong>, <strong>Apennine wolf<\/strong>, <strong>noble deer<\/strong>, <strong>roe deer<\/strong> and<strong>Marsican brown bear<\/strong>, as well as many birds of prey such as the<strong>golden eagle<\/strong>,<strong>peregrine<\/strong> falcon and eagle <strong>owl<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"305\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hotelcirillo.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gransasso4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-766\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hotelcirillo.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gransasso4-200x102.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.hotelcirillo.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gransasso4-300x153.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hotelcirillo.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gransasso4-400x203.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.hotelcirillo.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gransasso4.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The park encompasses the Gran Sasso group, the Laga group and the Twin Mountains.<\/strong> The <strong>Gran Sasso massif<\/strong>, located entirely in Abruzzo, has the typical face of the Dolomites and includes the highest peak of the Apennine chain, <strong>Corno Grande<\/strong>, which reaches 2912 meters in height.
