Atri, a very ancient city rich in history, art and culture, situated on a hill behind the Teramo coast, between the Piomba and Vomano rivers. Considered one of the most historically and artistically important centers in central and southern Italy<\/strong>, Atri has a strong tourist attraction given the quantity and quality of monuments in its territory. The Abruzzi town, just over 13 km from our Hotel, has very ancient origins and its history is supposed to have begun in the 10th century B.C. with the migration of the Illyrians, who originally inhabited these lands. <\/p>\n

Of particular interest is the charming historic center of Atri<\/strong>, which is rich in monuments, stately palaces, museums and characteristic alleys that have preserved their ancient medieval appearance. In particular, the town is rich in valuable religious architecture<\/strong>, including: the Cathedral Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta<\/strong>, a splendid Romanesque-Gothic building since 1899 National Monument<\/strong> and dating back to the Middle Ages, inside which it is possible to admire the splendid frescoes created by Andrea De Litio; the Church of Santa Reparata<\/strong>, with some magnificent 18th-century frescoes referable to Neapolitan circles; the Church of Sant’Agostino, built between the 13th and 14th centuries; and the Church of San Francesco, characterized by a scenic staircase. <\/p>\n

In addition to the numerous churches, there are other valuable monuments and places of interest in Atri, such as: the Palazzo Acquaviva<\/strong>, also known as the Ducal Palace, a kind of all-stone fortress built in the first half of the 14th century, the current seat of the Town Hall; the Bishop’s Palace<\/strong> and the Seminary belonging to the late 16th century; the Roman Theater<\/strong> near the Palazzo Cicada, dating back to the 3rd – 2nd centuries BC.C.; the submerged ruins of the ancient port of Atri near the Tower of Cerrano; the Capitular Museum<\/strong>, which houses important paintings ranging from the 13th to the 20th century; and the Educational Museum<\/strong> of Medieval and Renaissance Musical Instruments, housed in the Ducal Palace.<\/p>\n

In terms of landscape, the Calanchi di Atri Nature Reserve<\/strong> is of considerable interest, an extraordinary protected natural area covering 380 hectares on a hilly landscape from 100 to 500 meters above sea level, which is fascinating for the spectacular presence of the Calanchi, real natural sculptures born from the runoff of water on clay and marl soils that have remained devoid of forest cover.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
