Pescara is an important urban center nestled among hills and one of the most fascinating coastlines in Italy. About 15 kilometers from our Hotel in Silvi, the Abruzzo city is the largest in the region and offers visitors beautiful beaches and striking monuments to discover. Although its origins are almost entirely unknown, Pescara has a very ancient history as evidenced by the 6,000-year-old artifacts found at Telegraph Hill. The heart of the city is Piazza della Rinascita, commonly known as “Piazza Salotto,” around which are the most renowned clubs and trendy stores.

Famous in particular for its marina, one of the largest in the Adriatic, Pescara is essentially a modern-looking city where, alongside the memory of what has been lost, there are important reminders of the past.

Among the main monuments and places of interest to visit in Pescara are: the Cathedral of St. Cetteo, a striking religious building built between 1933 and 1938 on the remains of the ancient church of St. Jerusalem and strongly desired by Gabriele D’Annunzio; the Basilica of the Madonna of the Seven Sorrows, a religious, historical, artistic and cultural landmark for the city of Pescara that finds its climax with the feast of the Madonna of the Seven Sorrows on the first Sunday in June; the Archaeological Park of Telegraph Hill, where remains from prehistoric times have been found; the Gabriele D’Annunzio Birthplace Museum, where the poet was born and it is currently possible to admire furnishings, period furniture and objects that belonged to the family and D’Annunzio’s most spectacular exploits; the Museum of the Peoples of Abruzzo, housed in the Bourbon Bath building, where artifacts and evidence of Abruzzo life from prehistoric times to the Industrial Revolution are kept; and the Dannunziana Reserve, also known as the D’Avalos Pinewoods, which houses a small lake and some buildings of historical value such as the former Aurum factory.

Pescara is also known as an important cultural center; in fact, major events are held there, including Pescara Jazz, an international jazz festival held annually in Pescara; and the Ennio Flaiano International Prize, which enlivens the city with events in film, literature, theater and television.
