The cathedral, erected in the 12th century and enlarged in the 14th, houses valuable art treasures inside, including: the famous gilded silver antependium of the high altar made by Nicola da Guardiagrele between 1433 and 1448; and the marvelous polyptych made in the second decade of the 15th century by Jacobello del Fiore.

Among the other historic churches, of which the city is rich, the following stand out: the Church of St. Anna dei Pompetti, also located in the heart of the historic center, which constitutes the only early medieval building in Teramo; the Church of St. Anthony in Largo Melatino, dating back to the 13th century; and the Shrine of Our Lady of Grace in Frondarola, just outside the walls of the historic center.

In addition to the striking churches, Teramo has other places of interest in its territory, including: the Della Monica Castle, a fascinating nineteenth-century reconstruction of a complex of medieval-style buildings; the Melatino House, one of the few palaces from the Middle Ages that have come down to us; the remains of the Roman Theater and Amphitheater, located just a few meters apart in the historic center; and the Civic Museum, where it is possible to admire the most important works of art from the fifteenth to the nineteenth centuries from Teramo and its surroundings.
